High School Memories

It’s that time of year, the kids are getting ready to head back to school. And it makes those of us who’ve been in the working world for a while a little nostalgic. I’ve got a metric tonne of great memories from my school days – funny teachers, interesting classes, and of course my awesome friends. Chris, Katy and I got talking this morning about our favourite cafeteria foods. Every high school has its staples, whether it’s the fries and gravy, Chris and Katy’s favourite the under-baked cookies, and in my case – Steak-ums! Apparently not as common in Chatham-Kent as they were in Scarborough, but man were they ever yummy!! A heap of roast beef on an egg yolk bun absolutely drenched in cheese sauce. Mmm mmm good!!
So what’s your favourite school memory — cafeteria food or otherwise ;)

Robyn….don’t forget the caramelized fried onions on it too. Steak on a bun was a staple in Cambridge too!!!

I must say the (ahem) green hamburgers and fries and gravy most definitely. Also loved the first few weeks of school hanging out at lunch outside in the sun and afterschool…

I hated HS…people sucked and I wish nothing but ill will upon them

Chilly cheese french fries! They were the best when I went to CKSS.

Yeah, not the healthiest… but a bit of happiness to get you through the long day. Once I graduated high school and started working full-time, I remember I dropped about 20 pounds in a month because I wasn’t eating the cafeteria junk anymore.

No, not drenched, sadly — I couldn’t find a picture of one that looked exactly right, but this is pretty darn close. And yeah, not so much in the way of healthy — dripping with grease and other fatty wonderfulness!

Chances are new health standards have eliminated our favourite cafeteria foods from the menu. This steak ‘um does not looked drenched in cheese sauce, though ;)

My favourite from high school was the breakfast sandwiches that tasted a lot like Egg McMuffins, plus the hash browns. Quite unhealthy, I’m sure.
